Reports: Affleck to direct solo Batman film

Ben Affleck stars as the Dark Knight in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."

The Batfleck’s hunkered down in his new Batmobile for the long haul.

Ben Affleck plans to co-write, direct and star in a solo Batman movie, according to reports from Deadline Hollywood, Variety and other trades. The Oscar-winning actor will debut as Bruce Wayne and his cape-and-cowled Dark Knight alter ego in director Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, in theaters March 25 and co-starring Henry Cavill as Superman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.

Warner Bros. Had no comment.

Affleck’s co-writer is reportedly Geoff Johns, the noted DC Comics scribe of Justice League and recent Batman: Earth One graphic novels. Johns is also DC Entertainment’s chief creative officer as well as an executive producer on Batman v Superman and The CW’s The Flash TV show.

Warner Bros. Has movies based on DC superheroes scheduled through 2020, and a potential new Batman movie could shift around that schedule much like the recent news of a Spider-Man film moved around the Marvel cinematic lineup.

Affleck could potentially show up in multiple films, too: He’s expected to have a role in next year’s Suicide Squad — which features Jared Leto and Margot Robbie as Bat-villains Joker and Harley Quinn, respectively — plus two Justice League team-up films with Cavill, Gadot and others.

More about Affleck’s Bat-movie could come as early as this weekend. The actor is expected to be part of a Warner Bros. Panel presentation at San Diego Comic-Con Saturday afternoon along with his Batman v Superman co-stars.
