Brooks Koepka put together a near-flawless weekend at Erin Hills to win the U.S. Open for his first career major title. It was a different story, though, for Fox.

After walking off that 18th green as a major champion, Koepka’s kiss with girlfriend Jena Sims was captured by the FOX broadcast. That just wasn’t how FOX described that post-championship moment. Joe Buck misidentified Sims as Koepka’s ex-girlfriend, Becky Edwards.
Buck went on to describe Edwards as an All-American soccer player at Florida State – unaware to the fact that Koepka was no longer dating Edwards and had a different girlfriend with him at Erin Hills.
Fox Sports is still relatively new to the golf broadcasting game, but that post-tournament kiss is a staple of a golf broadcast. Someone needed make sure the announcing crew had up-to-date information on family, friends and girlfriend. That didn’t happen until the mistake was already made.
The broadcast eventually learned of the error and correctly identified Koepka’s girlfriend as Jena Sims.
