Adrien Broner coasts to win over Carlos Molina

Adrien Broner celebrates his victory against Carlos Molina following their fight at the MGM Grand.

LAS VEGAS – The only problem for Adrien Broner Saturday night was the crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Broner, 24, fighting for the first time since suffering the first loss of his career to Marcos Maidana in December, bounced back from a slow start with a ho-hum unanimous decision victory against Carlos Molina in a 10-round junior welterweight non-title bout at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The crowd let him hear it after it was over.

Broner, nicknamed “The Problem,” was clean-shaven after being ordered to cut his full beard by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. It didn’t matter. Broner controlled the action throughout against the light-hitting Molina but didn’t look sharp by any stretch.

Wearing socks with his image on them, he raised his record to 28-1 with 22 KOs. Molina fell to 17-2-1 with 7 KOs. Broner started slow but won comfortably on all three cards, including a shutout by one judge.

“I feel good. It was a comeback fight,” Broner said. “I shook the cobwebs off and as you can see, I didn’t have any trouble. It was a sparring session on national TV.”.

Broner’s trainer, Mike Stafford said he thought his fighter did great. “He picked that guy apart. He gave him a boxing lesson,” Stafford said. “People forget, Adrien is still young, and he’s in a new weight class and now we have to get used to that.”.

Broner, trying to talk above the booing of the crowd, said, “The loss humbled me but at the end of the day I’m still Adrien Broner,” he said. “This is the right way. The last way was the right way. But there were some things that didn’t go my way.

I’ll fight anybody. I’ll fight (Many) Pacquiao before he leaves.”.
